How to Play Pac-Man on Google Maps (And Where It Went)

Google released a playable Ms. Pac-Man Easter egg inside Google Maps on April Fools 2015. Any city street grid could be turned into a Pac-Man maze. It was wildly popular for the few days it was live, then quietly removed.

Is it still available?

The original Google Maps Ms. Pac-Man Easter egg is no longer accessible. Google has since rolled out limited-time Maps games for various promotions but none have been as well-known.

The official replacement

In 2020 Bandai Namco launched Pac-Man Geo, a standalone mobile app that used Google Maps street data as the maze. The app is no longer in active development as of 2024 but archived versions exist.

The bigger picture

The Google Maps Ms. Pac-Man is a good example of why Pac-Man stays culturally relevant: the brand is strong enough that any company wanting a one-day promo just adds Pac-Man to their existing product. The character does the work.
